The music of composer Andrew Stickney (a.k.a. ClassicalCrysis) is an eclectic blend of constant musical energy. Stickney’s style can best be categorized as “neo-romantic/21st century atonal/experimental art music.” He writes for piano, orchestral instruments, and voice. His work “Woodwind Quintet no. 1” has been approved by the Fred Fox Wind Quintet and will be played on his Undergraduate Senior recital this spring.
His alter ego “ClassicalCrysis” was created as a way to express, create, and market his unique blend of hip hop, jazz, and heavy metal. While experimenting with the digital audio workstation FL Studio, Stickney created an electronica/metal/instrumental fusion style featured on several music sites. Over the summer of 2015, ClassicalCrysis climbed his way to a #2 ranking on ReverbNation.com for the genre electronica in Phoenix, AZ.
Stickney graduated class of 2016 at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music with his Bachelors in Music Composition. At the University of Arizona, he studied 20th Century composition with Professor Dan Asia and 20th Century theory and electroacoustic music with Dr. Craig Walsh. His studies included trumpet performance, jazz, theory, and composition with Prof. Ed Reid (trumpet, U of A); Dr. Donald Smith ( Glendale Community College); Dr. Bob Albury (theory and composition, GCC); Dave Schmidt (jazz improvisation and trumpet, GCC); and Dr. Lynne Haeseler (piano, theory, and composition; PLACe Music Academy in Phoenix, AZ). His plans include joining a band, networking, and finding a job composing, eventually finding his forte in the musical world.
